Past events held by Costessey Town Council
Buying second-hand is more on trend than ever with one main reason being the positive environmental factor. Costessey Town Council is proud to offer indoor pre-loved pop up sales across all three of our centres. Bringing the chance for the Costessey community to come together and sell their items in the comfort of our halls, so the British weather doesn't matter. Items on sale range from pre-loved fashion, books, toys, accessories and more. Our first pop-up sale was held at the Costessey Centre on Longwater Lane. Costessey Community Gardening Club hosted a table outside which was also well attended selling plants to raise funds for their group. Our next pop-up sale was held at Breckland Hall and Owen Barnes Room which saw all table spaces over both halls sell out. The last being held at Queens Hills Community centre. Our aim to host these events regularly throughout all our halls will continue next year.
Our first free Children's Fun Day was held on Saturday 3rd August 2024. Our goal was to create a day in the summer holidays for children to attend and enjoy several free activities. Being aware of how expensive days out can be in the summer holidays for families, this had an extremely positive response from visitors and vendors. The free activities included a four-sided rock-climbing wall, gaming arcade, science shows and dinosaurs. In addition there were pocket money friendly stalls, food vendors, free crafts, Galactic troopers and more. This would have not been possible without the help of our sponsorship from local estate agents Russen & Hill and Costessey Town Council's events budget
''We've done a fair few public events and we felt the event you put together was really well done, everything from the communication between yourselves and us, both prior to the event and on the day was brilliant. The range of activities for families to make use of, you catered for a range of ages and varying interests, rock climbing for the sporty active children, for children interested in gaming and technology (think we may have sold a few Christmas presents in terms of children wanting VR headsets!) The staff and team on the day were all incredibly lovely and friendly, definitely give yourselves a pat on the back and be proud of what you provided for local families during the holidays." King's Coronation Afternoon Tea
King's Coronation complimentary afternoon tea was supplied by Costessey Town Council for residents of Costessey to celebrate the Kings Coronation. The idea of the Afternoon Tea Party was chosen due to falling in line with the official Coronation scope of the 'big lunch' to bring neighbours and communities together to share friendship, food and fun. A live viewing of the Kings coronation was shown during the Afternoon Tea as well as a complimentary raffle and children's competitions. The food was sourced from local businesses to help support the local economy. 'Easter's Bakery' supplied delicious scones and cakes, whilst Mike Urry from 'Whitwell & Reepham Railway' Charity supplied the sandwiches. A selection of food was Gluten free, Vegetarian and Vegan making it inclusive to everyone's dietary needs. Sanctuary Housing in Costessey received Afternoon Tea goodie bags for all their residents. The day was a huge success, and we thank everyone who attended.
The Sir John Hurt Film Trust Workshop
The Sir John Hurt Film Trust is based at Cinema City, Norwich held a 1950s Workshop at The Costessey Centre in partnership with Costessey Town Council. The workshop was led by Angela Bishop, a qualified reminiscence worker. We went back in time and talked about films, musicians, fashion and more, whilst viewing memorabilia from the 1950s. Memories were shared, and a lot of laughter was had!
Dadvengers
Dadvengers was founded to create a community of resources for parents, to support fathers on their journey through parenthood. This year, Dadvengers started a weekly "Dad Walk" in Queen's Hills, which sees dads and children from the community meet for an hour of play - allowing the kids to run around and the dads to chat together''. Dadvengers is working to ensure dads have a supportive community around them. Community Engagement Officer, Georgina Duford reached out to Dadvengers to discuss how Costessey Town Council can help support the group and community formed in Queen's Hills. Dadvengers now hold a variety of events at Queen's Hills Community Centre in partnership with Costessey Town Council. Three events have been held so far which included drama classes by 'Mini Moons Co', 'stay and play sessions' by Action for Children, a pop-up bake sale by 'Cate the accidental baker' and of course story times by Nigel Clarke- TV presenter!
