We are looking for volunteers to help run the Girlguiding units in Costessey, Bowthorpe and Easton. Girl Guides have been present in Costessey since 1934 and today we have 12 units run by 30 fantastic volunteers. Guiding is so much more than an after school activity or a way for girls to spend an evening. We build girls' confidence and raise their aspirations. We give them a space to have fun. We run Rainbows (4–7 years), Brownies (7–10 years), Guides (10–14 years) and Rangers (14–18 years). From a personal perspective Jan, a volunteer for Girl Guides, has written: "I started to volunteer with the Queens Hills Guides in January 2020, that date is pretty significant as we know what happened in the UK from March of that year! I answered a plea on the community facebook page for volunteers, and it appealed to me as I had been a guide (many years ago) and I didn't want other girls to miss out on that opportunity. We did lots of online meetings during lockdown, which was a new experience for us all, but equally gave us all something to look forward to outside of the "norm". Once we went back to face to face meetings we gathered momentum and ended up with a thriving unit, and we have subsequently started up a Rangers unit as our older girls wanted to carry on with us. It is so far removed from my normal day to day work (IT Service Desk Manager) at a local large Company, especially as I don't have my own children, but I can honestly say it has given me experiences I would never have had otherwise… Camping, Canoeing, helping to cater for 30 people and learning how to start fires with flints! Come along to one of the many Rainbow, Brownie, Guide or Rangers meetings we have across Costessey, Bowthorpe and Easton, see what we do and see if you can find some time to help us out! I have increased my circle of friends and don't regret a moment of it." Register your interest at www.girlguiding.org.uk or e-mail costesseybowthorpeguiding@outlook.com
